September 23, 1933 – January 26, 2022
It was the first day of Autumn when Lucy was born on a beautiful Saturday morning, September 23, 1933. She was raised in a ranch style house in the small community known as Verdemont, CA, just northwest of San Bernardino; with grape vineyards as far as the eye could see.
From childhood, Lucy brought joy and laughter into the lives of everyone she met. With age, Lucy developed a passion for helping others. She was a faithful woman, giving forth her time and effort to the convent. Helping the Nuns with their daily activities, teaching children catechism classes, and sterilizing the surgical equipment the Nuns used when helping the doctors at the hospital.
Lucy then met her husband Jose F. Rivera Sr., the love of her life! They met in 1949, married in 1953, and went on to build a bright future, having six children. Lucy was a devoted, loving, and caring wife. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Blessed with an abundance of wonderful people, she took great care to nurture, and maintain those bonds. With Lucy, family always came first!
Lucy had the most gravitating smile and a quiet strength about her. Charming and admired by her family and friends, she always wanted to help wherever she could. She loved animals, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, fishing, and slot machines. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
May our precious mother, Lucy V Rivera, rest in peace.
Lucy is survived by five children: Lucy R. Chavarria (Fred), Jerry Rivera (Becky), Dennis Rivera, Rosalie Rivera, and Lisa Rivera. 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Jose F. Rivera, Sr. her husband of 66 years, her son, Jose F. Rivera, Jr., her sister, Guadalupe Romero, and her parents.
