John Villavicencio of Bloomington, CA returned home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 6th, 2024 at the age of 93. He was born on July 19th, 1931 to Juan and Joaquina Villavicencio and grew up in San Bernardino, CA. Later, he and his family moved to Bloomington, CA where he has resided for the last 49 years.
During his early years, John graduated from San Bernardino High School and attended classes at Valley College.
John retired after 32 years as a civilian with the Department of Defense, at Norton Air Force base in San Bernardino, CA. He made significant contributions to the “Skunk Works” SR-71 project, the Ballistic Missile Office, and other programs during his Federal Service.
He was actively involved in the Apostolic Church of San Bernardino throughout his life, serving as treasurer and as a leader in the men’s groups for many years. He repeatedly raised money for church ministries by cooking menudo for fundraisers and selling out every time. He also served as an interpreter on mission trips to Mexico for his brother’s church, Rose Drive Friends Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Joaquina Villavicencio; his brothers, Manuel Val and Ruben Villavicencio; his sisters, Eva Alejandre, Aurora Ortega, Celia Martinez, Herminia Cardenas, and Lydia Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Alice Villavicencio; his brother, Gilbert Villavicencio; his sons, Roy and Gary Villavicencio; his daughters, Janice Villavicencio, Marlene Gathings, and Sharon Beattie; his grandchildren, Meagan Stone, Jonathan Villavicencio, Natalie Gathings, Derek Villavicencio, Larissa Carbajal, Felisha Dix, Conrad Beattie, Amy Gathings, and Alyson Beattie; and his great-grandchildren, Kara Johnson, Elyse Carbajal, Wyatt Stone, Elena Carbajal, and Vincent Villavicencio.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services, which will be held at Mt. View Mortuary, 570 E. Highland Ave. San Bernardino, CA 92404. The viewing will be held at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM, and internment to follow. Memorial reception to follow at one of John’s favorite restaurants, Zacatecas Mexican Cafe, 3767 Iowa Ave, Riverside, CA 92507.
