According to a delayed birth record, Mama was born in Olkmulgee, Oklahoma — according to Mama she was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma. Her parents were Daniel B. Rentie and Ida Bell Simmons.
Early years were delineated by hard physical labor assisting her family of farmers with field work. After her school years (high school class Valedictorian) and a brief marriage, she migrated to Los Angeles to work for Dr. William Polk Longmire, a renowned surgeon, who helped found the UCLA school of medicine. Dr. Longmire was from Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Mama once worked for his parents.
Mama eventually settled in Colton, California a city she dearly loved and refused to leave. Mama had many friends who will never forget her and she remained a humble, kind and beautiful soul all the days of her life.
