Mother Betty Jean Edwards was one of ten siblings. She was born to Mattie Robinson and Johnnie Clark on March 1, 1937 in Brookhaven Mississippi. Her family moved to Bogalusa Louisiana in the 1940’s. Here in Bogalusa, Betty was introduced to the Lord at Saint John Temple Church of God in Christ.
Later in life, she moved to California where she met her husband Rudolph Edwards and married January 19, 1974 and raised two sons, Darryl and Mark. While residing in California, Betty went back to school for higher education. She was a manager of May Company Department store and Harris’ Department store. She obtained certification through the California Department of Social Services to own and operate an adult residential facility for individuals with development and intellectual disabilities. Betty’s passion was caring for those in need. She loved nurturing and pampering them. Betty loved attending church and serving among her church family. She was a member of several church committees which included, Ways and Means, Home and Foreign Mission, and was Mother of the Church. She served under the late Superintendent Pastor Herbert C. Pugh, Late Superintendent Pastor Jessie L. Malone and Pastor Willie Wilson of Greater New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in the City of San Bernardino, California where she was a member until her transition home to be with the Lord.
On Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, it pleased the almighty God, in his infinite wisdom, to call his faithful servant Mother Betty Jean Edwards, from labor to reward. Although she will be deeply missed, we rejoice for we know that a crown of righteousness is laid up for her. Mother Betty Edwards was preceded in death by her Father, Johnnie Clark, Mother, Mattie Robinson, siblings, Georgia, Lillie, Robert, James, Charles and Shirley. Among those who loved her and will cherish her memories are her children: Darryl Clark (Maria), Mark Noble and Tanya Edwards. Her Grandchildren: Darryl Jr., Isiah, Damahria, Shir’Ley, Amber, Dwight and Nyaire. Mother Betty Edwards will be remembered and loved by her sisters: Debbie, Sandra; Brothers: Johnnie Jr., Nieces: Lorraine, Glenda, Diana, Cynthia, Beatrice; Nephews: Thomas, Kip, Derrick; Cousins, a host of extended family, loved ones and friends.
She also leaves to cherish her memory the Greater New Jerusalem Family!
