Esteban Cantu, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on September 25, 1958, in San Benito, Texas, Esteban was a cherished member of his family and community. His life was a testament to love, laughter, and giving—a legacy that will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Esteban was the son of Julian and Maria Guadalupe Cantu, who instilled in him the values of kindness, respect, and generosity. He is preceded in death by his father, Julian Cantu, and his brothers Eddie, Alvin, and sister Estella Cantu. He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Cantu, whom he married on March 18, 1983. Together, they shared 42 years of a deep and abiding love that was evident to all who knew them.
As a father, Esteban was exemplary—he adored his children and embraced his role as “Abuelo” with immense pride. He is survived by his children, JP and Erin DeVaul, Julian and Yissell Cantu, and Robert Howell, along with his treasured grandchildren, Isabella Cantu, Sophia DeVaul, Emma DeVaul, and Asher DeVaul. Esteban’s heart was also filled with love for his extended family, including his mother Maria Guadalupe Cantu, his brothers and their wives Reynaldo and Lydia Cantu, Ricardo and Esmeralda Cantu, Julian and Sylvia Cantu, and his sister in law Susan.
Esteban dedicated 32 years of his life to the United States Postal Service, where he was known not just for his work ethic but also for his sense of humor, often cracking jokes that brought smiles to his coworkers and customers alike. His infectious laughter and generous spirit were hallmarks of his personality, making him a beloved figure in both his workplace and his community.
He was also an active member of his community, devoting his time to volunteering at the pantry in Paris, Texas. His commitment to helping others showcased the depth of his character and his unwavering belief in giving back.
Esteban had a passion for life, which was evident in his hobbies. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he could always be found cheering for his team or cursing at them for a fumble. He also found joy in fishing, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy peaceful moments with family and friends.
His funeral service will be held on November 21, 2024, at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Mont Meta & Memorial Park, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life and the joy he brought to everyone he met.
Esteban Cantu was not just a husband and father; he was a guiding light, a man who taught those around him the importance of compassion and resilience. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, and his family will forever carry his lessons in their hearts.
