Willie Ervin Toney Sr, was born in Honey Grove Texas, August 13, 1938 to Albert Railback and Marie Toney. Willie accepted Christ at a very young age. Willie entered the US Army on June 1, 1960 at the age of 22 and proudly served his country for 25 years. He was a highly decorated veteran who proudly served and retired in 1985.
Willie was always full of life and ready to have fun. Willie loved his children dearly, he loved to bowl, he loved to cook his favorite dish (fried cabbage), play cards (pinnacle), dancing, fish and do anything that kept him young. Anyone who knew Willie knew he was the one to call if you needed anything. He helped many people with many things and always did it with a smile and asked for nothing in return.
During his tenure he served in the Vietnam War and accomplished the following; the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon.
Mr. Toney is survived by wife Tekla Jones, four children: Felita A. Toney, Lydia G. Evans (Odell), Willie E. Toney Jr. (Kristen) and Telida Elston. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Octavia, Courtney, Ronald, Broderick, Brianne, Jorell, Reece, Makenna, Grace and Kelton: and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Toney is also survived by his siblings Annie Marie Toney, Thelma Frazier and Linda Denison. A host of nieces and nephews and endless number of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his Beloved son Ronald Glenn Toney.
A visitation will be held on Thursday December 22, 2016 at 6:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 12:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
