I would like to send my deepest heartfelt condolences.  Mr. Flakes was my first and only mentor that I accepted throughout my 25 year career because he was truly a Chief.  I never forgot the many lessons that he attempted to teach me.  It was only as I got deeper into my career that I could truly begin to understand the value of his message.  But I admit, I never forgot them nonetheless.  He taught the value of family and the responsibility of the good NCO.  As I am now about to end my military career, I can only hope to carry myself partially in his mold.  Chief will be greatly missed, but I can only hope that others who had the blessing of being in his prescence and under his command will continue his teachings.

P.S.  Thank you Mrs. Flakes for opening up your home to me those many years ago.  I still remember the excellent meal and Chief's train set.  I will never forget "CMSgt W.D. FLAKES".

Mr. Flakes was like a father to me.  He came into my life 18 years ago when I was away from my family for the first time.  I will never forget how he took care of me.  My prayers are with you Mrs. Flakes and family.  Mr. Flakes will truly be missed.

Having met Willie for just a few short moments I knew his family meant the world to him. Lorraine and Family our hearts go out to you...find peace in memories and being together. And while the Spurs aren't in the finals I will watch the rest of them to honor Willie and his love for sports!
