Colonel William J. Verbert USAF Retired died in San Antonio, Texas on March 25, 2011. Bill Verbert was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1927. He was the only child of Joseph and Lucille Verbert. He went to Grand Rapids Central High School and graduated from Michigan State University where he played football and received a BA in Accounting in 1951.
He served in the Navy for 4 years and in the Air Force for 22 years. He served his country in WWII, Korea and the Vietnam War. He was awarded several medals to include the Legion of Merit.
Bill married Pat (Florine) Self in 1948 and they spent 59 wonderful years together until her death in 2007. He is survived by 2 daughters, Linda and Terry, 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Amber, and one great grandson, Wyatt.
He had a contagious, boisterous laugh that remained with him until his death. He lived a good life and was loved immensely and will be forever missed by his family.
Services for Bill will be held on April 4, 2011 with military funeral honors at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
