Born on August 31, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to William Logan McCormack, Sr. and Virginia (Jean) Hesketh McCormack, he grew up with a foundation of love and integrity that would define his entire life.
William, affectionately known as Bill, was a graduate of Mariemont High School in Mariemont, Ohio. His thirst for knowledge and leadership skills were further honed at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and through his attendance at numerous USAF leadership and recruiting schools. His dedication to his country was evident in his nearly 28 years of service in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Bill's commitment to excellence was recognized with numerous ribbons and awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters. His final assignments as Recruiting Group Squadron Superintendent in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Chief of the USAF Recruiting Training Team at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, were a testament to his leadership and dedication.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1988, Bill continued to serve his community through his work with the Kahlig Auto Group and as a starter at Canyon Springs Golf Course, where he remained for approximately 23 years. His work ethic and camaraderie with colleagues were hallmarks of his post-military career.
Bill's early years were marked by his enthusiasm for baseball and basketball, and he later became an accomplished bowler. However, his true passion in his later years was golfing, especially at Canyon Springs, where he spent many happy hours on the greens. His love for the sport was only eclipsed by the love he had for his family, whom he always put first.
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 53 years, Judith, and their daughter, Lea McCormack Le Canu and her husband, Gerard of San Antonio and Bill's son, William L. McCormack lll and his wife Susan, of Clovis, New Mexico. Bill's legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Riley Logan Robinson, Jack Ryan Robinson of San Antonio and Chris-Xeil McCormack, Paige McCormack, and his great-grandchildren, Aubree, Payton, and Levi, all of Trenton, Ohio. His brother, Thomas McCormack and his wife Ruth of Loveland, Ohio and Robert McCormack and his wife Nancy of Wilmington, Delaware along with numerous nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces, will hold his memory dear.
Bill is preceded in death by his father, William Logan McCormack, Sr., his mother, Virginia (Jean) Hesketh McCormack, and his sister, Ann McCormack Said. They have now welcomed him with open arms into eternal peace.
Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, which, while sometimes an acquired taste, never failed to bring a smile to those around him. His stubbornness was matched only by his strong ethical compass and his fierce love for his country. Those who knew him would describe Bill as loving and wise, a man who lived his life with a quiet strength and unwavering principles.
As we say goodbye to William L. McCormack Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by service, family, and an unyielding commitment to the values he held dear. His influence and the memories he created will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him. Bill's journey through life was one of purpose and joy, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him
