Bill was born on December 25, 1942 in Rusk, Texas to Ernest Freeman and Cathern Freeman nee Reed. Bill graduated from Calumet High School in Northwest Indiana in May of 1960. During his high school career, he was a sports writer for the Houston Chronicle for Channelview High School from 1959 to 1960. Bill entered the United States Air Force on July 27, 1960 where he served as an Air Traffic Controller in Germany during the Berlin Crisis until his release from active duty on January 8, 1964. Bill was an avid sports fan, baseball player, fisherman, and one of the top three drag racing announcers in the country. After his service ended in the military, Bill went on to open Hi Gear, a highly successful truck accessories store located in San Antonio, Texas. Bill was a die-hard Yankees fan, loved Whataburger, and was an owner of Championship racing greyhounds. Bill retired from his career in 2003 where he spent most of his time at home breeding and selling miniature dachshunds and tending to his property which he dearly loved.
Bill is proceeded in death by his father, Ernest Freeman, mother, Cathern Freeman, sister, Billie Lee Deutsche, and sister Lois Ann Welch. Bill is survived by his wife, Priscilla Ann Freeman nee Harlach, daughters Morganna Louise Freeman and Jennifer “Nicki” Nicole Freeman, sons Brant Douglas Freeman and Craig Raymond Freeman, grandchildren James Stephen Anderwald III, Myles Alexander Anderwald, and Zoey Lorraine Freeman, brothers Ernest Reed Freeman and Frank Freeman, and sisters Margaret Sue Chiado, Era Frances McMillen, Cathern Marie Valentine, Judith “Judy” Hidagarde Weiss, Sharyn Gayle Wolfshohl, Cynthia “Candy” Elizabeth Clopton, and Roberta Lynn Brown.
Bill was a proud father, strong worker, incredible storyteller, skilled blackjack player, and a devoted grandfather and husband. Bill’s life will be celebrated in mid-July with a ceremony of spreading his ashes out to sea where he loved to fish where he will forever be where he wanted, home.
