Vera Jeanne Perkins

On July 26th, 2023 Vera Jeanne Perkins, 89, peacefully gained her wings and went to walk with the lord. Vera was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Gustavus and Ruth Watkins on May 23rd, 1934. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Roosevelt University. She married Silas Banks Perkins on May 17th 1959. They were happily married for 61 years, and raised 5 of their adored children, together.

The phrase ‘Stay at Home Mom” did not exist when Vera’s children were young. It was standard for women to stay home while their husbands worked outside of the house. However, Vera seamlessly surpassed those standards as an extraordinary wife and mother. Not out of obligation, but because loving and nurturing were abilities tightly sewn within her heart. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her beloved husband, Silas.

She leaves behind her two youngest brothers, Charles Watkins of San Diego and Louis Watkins (Viola) of Chicago. Along with her sister in law Scheresa, nieces, nephews and cousins. To continue her legacy, she leaves behind her 5 children, Deidre Mark (Caroline), Christopher, Lori (Troy) and Ashley. Her

grandchildren, Apryle, Amber (Mehmet), Brianna, Alysa, Caleb, Grace and Kiara. Vera fostered such a welcoming and loving home, open to anyone that needed a mother’s warm embrace. As a God-serving woman, she poured her love into each heart and soul that had the opportunity to encounter her, never leaving one without a soft touch and sweet smile.

A visitation for Vera will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A memorial service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A committal service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.
