Trinidad G. Martinez, age 99, passed away September 17, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on December 24, 1917 in Mercedes, Texas to Francisco and Juanita Martinez. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving his country proudly. He was a prisoner of war in the Pacific Theater of operations from April 1942 to September 1945. He received the Prisoner of War Medal, Bronze Star Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Philippine Republic-Presidential Unit Citation and the Philippine Independence Ribbon. Trinidad worked for many years for the city of Brownsville, Texas, serving in different positions. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wife, Celia Olvera Martinez and Maria Concepcion Martinez, his children, John and Mario Martinez, and siblings, Maria Martinez, Jose Martinez, Matilde Martinez, Lupe Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Pancho Martinez and Antonio Martinez; also deceased great-grandchildren, Trinity Celia Martinez and Dillan Rey Martinez. He is survived by his children, Maria R. Dorado and husband, Sam, Maria Irma Gonzalez, Jesse Angulo and wife Abby, Trinidad Martinez Jr. and wife Julie and Leticia Gallegos and husband Israel; brother, Jesus Martinez; daughters-in-law, Rose Martinez and Amelia Martinez; 23 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238 of Monday, September 25, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Freedom Church, 6416 Grissom Road, San Antonio, Texas 78238 with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Army military honors.
