Chaplain (COL.) Tom Anderson Carroll Sr., USA (RET.), age 84, passed away Sunday, June 23rd, 2019. Tom was born September 17, 1934, in Sweetwater, Texas. He is a graduate of Santa Fe High School, Santa Fe Texas; a 1959 graduate of Johnson Bible College in Tennessee; and received his Divinity degree
from Texas Christian University (TCU), Brite Seminary in 1963.
Chaplain Carroll’s military career began with a commission to First Lieutenant, January 1966. After completing Army Chaplains Course in New York, 1967 he was promoted to Captain. During the Viet Nam conflict Chap. Carroll served with the 9th Inf. Division, Mobile Riverine. Chap. Carroll was recognized for his valor during intense combat against the North Vietnamese by receiving the Silver Star for his bravery. His other military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star first oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal fourth oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal fifth oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service Medal four bronze service stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas, Vietnam Campaign Medal. Chaplain Carroll is a graduate of the US Army War College, 1989, Command and General Staff College 1979, Chaplain Officer Advance 1977 and Clinical Pastoral Education Advance Program.
Tom Carroll was an honorable man of great character. He was a man of unwavering faith. He was also a loving husband to his wife Pat of 63 years, as well as a proud and loving father and grandfather. Tom Carroll was a TCU Horned Frog through and through. He could spot a fellow Horned Frog from a mile away and would make no haste in making his way to that person to talk to him/her. As well as being an avid TCU fan and supporter, Tom also loved to play golf, fish, and have fellowship with others. He was loved by everyone he came into contact with; he never met a stranger. Above all else, He loved to spend time with his family and was adored and loved by them all! He will be truly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lisso and Rissa Carroll; daughter in law, Jamie Carroll; sister, Rissa Reeves; brothers, Don Carroll, Jerry Carroll, Clayton Carroll; grandchild, Tom Anderson Carroll III. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Carroll; daughter, Rissa Carroll Sear (Stephan); sons, Tom Carroll Jr. (Nathalie) and Lt. Col. Tim Carroll (Kimberly); brother, Dan Carroll (Gloria); grandchildren, Ian Sear, Arianna Edgman (Tell), Thomas Patrick Carroll, Alyssa Carroll, Laura Carroll.
