Sulema V. Flores, age 97, passed away on December 12, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 1, 1925 in Stockdale, Texas. Sulema was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed.
Sulema was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Socorro Velez; and her husband of 40 years, Gilbert H. Flores. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Esther Flores-DeHaven (Roger-deceased), Olga Lopez (Sam), Gilbert G. Flores (Margie), Hilda Ali (Peter), Anna Foran (William); 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren; her sister, Eva Fonseca (Rudy-deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She retired from the SAISD as a cafeteria manager after 16 years. She was well known for her excellent cooking and tortilla making, a skill she passed on to many of her grandchildren. She was a loving homemaker and mother that enjoyed gardening, caring for grandchildren and volunteering for her church. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help where she loved being a member of the Altar Society and choir.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18th from 6-8 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 19th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church; 618 S. Grimes St., San Antonio, TX 78203 with burial to follow at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, 7689 Real Rd.; San Antonio, TX 78263.
