Steve Breazeale was born in San Angelo, Tx on March 14, 1953. His mom, Delores, said, “The delivery was easy except for the ears”, a true Biggs trait! Steve grew up in San Angelo and navigated through high school at San Angelo Central High, where he met the love of his life, Kathy, in 1969, and graduated in 1971. He always laughed and said, “She chased me until I caught her.” Coach Scoggins always claimed their love was because of him, since he sat them side by side in study hall. They were married in August of 1973 and had 55 wonderful years together, 51 of those married.
Music was always a large part of Steve’s life. He attended West Texas State University on a music scholarship and was active in their Baptist Student Union. He served as Music/Youth Pastor/Pastor at many churches, including First Baptist Goldthwaite, Park Heights and Immanuel Baptist, all in San Angelo, and later Church on the Rock and Living Water, both in San Antonio. He produced 6 gospel albums with his business Jericho Productions. When Steve was around, with nearly any instrument in hand, you knew you were about to experience a worship session like no other! He enjoyed his radio broadcasting days for Angelo State University men’s basketball and football. Later in life, he was very successful in his insurance career. He achieved many awards and 4 million in lifetime sales. Through each endeavor, Steve and Kathy worked together to see their dreams and passion come to fruition.
His greatest joy was always his family. He adored his Renee’, born in November 1974. You never knew what those two were up to, and they delighted in pranking Kathy no matter where they were. He was heavily involved in encouraging Renee’s middle school sports and high school swimming competitions, and later supported her as an Angelette at Angelo State University. His heart was full when she met the love of her life, David Myers, in whom he became close. They have blessed him with two wonderful grandkids, Mila and Corbin. His grandkids kept him on his toes, full of laughter, and even more overwhelmed with joy. He loved watching Mila play her cello, and watching Corbin compete in track and field. He did everything in his power to ensure his grandchildren could succeed in their passions.
Steve was a dreamer. His passion was loving and helping others, while making sure they knew the Lord. He touched many lives through his ministries, his love of music, and his worship. Always ready for a laugh, a prank, and to make sure the people around him were cared for. He also made sure to impart on others to “Never quit. Never give up.” That was a life motto for him and he proved it many times. The most important thing to him, though, was guiding people, seeing their success, but always ensuring their priority was God first.
On Feb 25, 2024 he looked into the eyes of God, surrounded by his wife Kathy and his daughter Renee’. As he left, he smiled. They knew then he was walking, running, and dancing with zero pain, and finally seeing God face to face alongside family and friends waiting for him. While Steve will be missed by his family and so many lives he touched, he left a beautiful legacy of faith, strength, love, and joy. Those eternal gifts will be carried through the generations as we carry forward. In that, Steve will never be forgotten.
