Ruby Katherine Jackson, 71, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2011 in San Antonio, TX. Born in Woodbury, TN on May 28, 1939, she was a vibrant person who loved her family, friends, and children alike. Her favorite pastime included spending time around the kitchen table playing cards and talking with anyone she encountered.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Jettie Pearl Smartt, a daughter and two sons, Kathy, Lillard, and George Kennedy, a brother and sister, Charles Smartt and Alma Jean Parker. Kathy is survived by her son, Brian Lopez-Rosa, and daughters, Elizabeth Mattio and Kimberly Rusk, her grandchildren, Matthew, Jesse, Allie, and Michael, three brothers, C.L., Bill, and Howard Smartt, three sisters Emma Ruth Crabtree, Jo Ann Hord, and Pamela Masoud. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
Kathy was never too busy on her spiritual journey to help others who were hurting and in need. She is loved by many and will be missed by all whose lives she touched. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 12 at Central Funeral Home, 2812 Hillsboro Highway, Manchester, TN 37355. The interment will take place at 1pm on Monday, March 14 at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, 11521 Chillicothe Rd, Chesterland, OH 44026.
Donations may be made in her name to the Heights on Huebner, 10127 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240 (Texas residents) or to the Gerlach Center for Senior Health, 3724 Olentangy River Rd, Suite A, Columbus, OH 43214 (Ohio and Tennessee residents). The proceeds will be used to purchase community gifts in her memory. These participant and residents at these facilities were like a second family, and your donations will enable her legacy to live on for years to come.
