Roxanne Marie Mendoza, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 27, 2024 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Roxanne was born on June 21, 1964 in San Antonio, TX to the late Raymond Sr. & Elizabeth Mendoza in San Antonio, TX. She was their princess, their only daughter and a natural-born caregiver as the middle child between an older brother and a younger brother.
Roxanne spent much of her life living in San Antonio where she graduated as a proud Shamrock from Incarnate Word High School in 1982. She went on to study at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Justice in 1986.
After graduating, she went on to work at USAA where she became a licensed Texas Insurance Agent. She spent 36 years in many different roles. As a strong leader, she worked her way up to many leadership roles retiring as the Training Director for Learning & Development. Not only did she work at USAA headquarters in San Antonio, TX, she also served the company for a 2-year stint in London, England and 3 years in Phoenix, AZ. USAA wasn’t just a place where Roxanne spent her career, it is also where she met many of her most beloved friends who were like family to her.
Roxanne had an adventurous soul her entire life. That’s exactly how she aimed to spend her retirement from USAA starting in 2022. She booked numerous vacations with friends and family including a memorable trip to Las Vegas to celebrate her 58th birthday and conquering her first cancer battle. She spent her life exploring the world including visits to Europe, Canada, Central America, the Caribbean and much of the U.S. She spent lots of her free time cheering on her beloved San Antonio Spurs as a season ticket holder. She also spent many of her days with her family, including getting snuggles from her grandnephew and grandniece.
Service to her community was always close to her heart. Throughout her lifetime, she was part of the Young Adult Ministry and a Lector at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She taught CCD and helped the parish any way she could. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader and taught a Financial Literacy course to elementary students. Roxanne was greeted in heaven by her father & mother, her dear cousin Mary Segura, her beloved Tia Margaret Segura, her best friend Yvette Alonzo Lopez and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her brother Raymond Jr. & wife Sandra Mendoza, her brother Gary Mendoza, her nephew Raymond (Robby) III & wife Pamela Mendoza, her niece Marlene & husband Keith Topolski, her niece Rebecca & husband Larry Maldonado, her grandnephew Monroe Topolski and her grandniece Maren Maldonado.
A Visitation and Rosary will be held at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238 on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX 78228 on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 10 a.m. An interment will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian, 11624 Culebra Road, San Antonio, TX 78253.
Roxanne’s departure is a deep loss felt by her entire family and her countless friends who loved her immeasurably. The family profoundly appreciates your prayers and support during this difficult time.
