Rosie “Rose” Davenport, was surrounded by her family in San Antonio, Texas, when she passed peacefully at age 74 into her Lord’s care on Monday, April 29, 2013. Rose was born in Tallulah, Louisiana to Sam and Vanalla (Hartwell) Glover. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Elizabeth “Sweet”, brothers Samuel “Sam” and John. She is survived by, and leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 54 years, Lewis Davenport; children Crystal Davenport Holland (Roger), Carl Davenport (Marcella), Clarence Davenport; and granddaughters, Amber Green, Marcie Bernard, Dominique Davenport; brothers, Thomas Glover and wife Barbara, Caleb “Bo” Glover; sister, Samella Anderson. She was a generous and kind person who was beloved by everyone and will be deeply missed.
In August 1958, Rose and Lewis were married, and as a military wife, she and the family were stationed throughout the US and overseas, including Misawa, Japan; Darmstat, Germany; and Taipei, Taiwan. Upon her return to the US in 1974, she worked as a bank supervisor at a local credit union and later retired as a contract manager for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service located in San Antonio, Texas.
Rose will be remembered as a loving, caring person. She had an unwavering faith in the Lord and a great love for her family. She was also a member of Rainbow Hills Baptist Church and especially enjoyed attending Sunday School classes. She had many friends, coworkers and family members who loved and admired her.
Although she is gone and will be dearly missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with loved ones and that she will never be forgotten through the cherished memories we carry in our hearts. The family wishes to give special thanks to everyone for their love and support.
Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
