Those who knew Robert knew him as a loving, caring, and extremely generous man; not to mention the biggest Green Bay Packers fan in Texas. Although Robert kept to himself, he loved to cook and barbecue, he’d be the first one calling everyone saying, “Come on over, there’s plenty, and enough for everyone.” He always wanted us to try his Italian food and invited anyone to a plate. If you needed a ride, or a brisket smoked, or just needed to get something fixed, Robert was the “Go To” Guy. Robert had a knack for always coming up with some riddle or joke which he’d always try to get you to figure out. Robert was such a fun and special guy; if you knew him, you loved him.
Most of all, Robert was a proud and loving father to his son Matthew, whom we all know as “Cheeto”. Robert gave Matthew this cariñoso nickname at a young age, and called him this till his last days.
Robert is preceded in death by his father Trinidad Valdez Jr, his mother Guadalupe C. Valdez and sister Josie Valdez.
Robert is survived by his son Matthew Valdez, and Matthew’s mom Loulean Ligeia Barrera, sisters Grace Valdez-Soria (Mike), Janie Valdez, brothers Trinidad Valdez III (Rebecca), Manuel Valdez (Sonia), Eddie Valdez (Janie), and Michael Valdez, along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
Robert’s infectious smile and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his friends and extended family, but especially by his son, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Although Robert is not here with us physically, we know that he will always be with us, and has been reunited with our mom and dad.
Robert’s family kindly ask that masks be worn during all services.
