Robert R. Gomez, of Leon Valley entered rest on July 19, 2014. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 15, 1939, the son of Edmund J. Gomez and Rose Tovar Gomez. Robert graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1958, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, with service at COMSERVPAC, Hawaii, and Joint Task Force 116, Thailand. At the end of his enlistment, Robert went on to work on the Apollo Lunar Program at North American Rockwell, Downey, California. Upon completion of the lunar mission contract, Robert returned to Texas and served on the Leon Valley Police Department for 27 years and retired as a Detective Investigator/Crime Prevention Officer. Robert was a proud supporter and life member of the NRA, and he formed many lasting friendships while a member of St. Luke Men’s Club, and American Legion, Alamo Post #2. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Henrietta Rose, Robert is survived by his daughter, Virna Perez and Virna’s, mother, Marilu; his son, Ryan Gomez, and Ryan’s mother, Loretta. Robert is also survived by several loving cousins residing in California, Maryland and Boerne. The family will welcome friends to join in a celebration of Robert’s Life, which will take place at 7:00PM Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM.
