Robert was born in San Antonio and grew up in Von Ormy, TX. The oldest of 7 children, he spent his time with his siblings getting into and out of trouble while making lasting memories. As a twin, he spared no opportunity to pull the old switcheroo keeping most guessing who was who. Robert joined the school band program and quickly took to playing the clarinet and saxophone. He was part of a band outside of school named The Soul Desires, and had a passion for performing some of his favorite tunes of the time.
He graduated forever a dragon from his alma mater, Southwest High School, in 1971, and enlisted in the United States Air Force the same year. He proudly served his country as part of the security police; which gave him the opportunity to travel to Japan, South Korea, and Wyoming.
Robert’s eldest daughter Patricia (Trish) was born in 1976 and he always spoke fondly of her. His love for her was evident in the way his face lit up with the mention of her name. He was lovingly proud of her and his two grandsons, Tristan and Bryce.
In 1979, Robert met his Irish sweetheart, Elizabeth, while stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He avowed he loved her from the moment he saw her. They were married in 1981 and were fortunate to share 42 years together. They have two daughters, Lisa and Jessica, whom he loved and lived for to the day he left this world.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1986, Robert and Elizabeth returned home to San Antonio. Robert worked in a variety of roles; securing jobs with Kelly A.F.B., Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and ultimately retiring from H-E-B after 18 years of employment. Robert strove to be exceptional in everything he was tasked with. His work was always exemplary and somehow, he always found a way to ensure his duties set the standard for the highest level of efficiency coupled with a perfected presentation.
Robert absolutely loved people. He was known for talking to anyone and everyone. He took great joy in sharing his “joke of the day” or “Dad jokes” with family and friends. Robert excelled in conversation. He often learned more about others than the people closest to the acquaintances he encountered. He easily managed to befriend numerous of the medical professionals who cared for him during his final weeks. Robert was patient, lived in the moment, and embodied a spirit of positivity.
He proudly fulfilled his titles of Father and Grandfather. His childlike nature allowed him to connect with his children and grandchildren through blowing bubbles, playing made up games, and eating popsicles in the summer sun. Robert adored his family and never missed an opportunity to drop everything at a moment’s notice to spend time together. He often told his family, friends, and co-workers his grandchildren were the light of his life. Robert also dearly loved his dog, Val, and missed him every day after he left the world.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Flores Sr. and Julia V. Flores, and his brother, David Flores. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Elizabeth Flores, his daughters, Trish (Wade) Alred, Lisa (Joe) Rodriguez, and Jessica Michele Flores, along with his brothers, (twin) Rudy (Margie) Flores and Andrew (Susie) Flores, and his sisters, Rachel (Alex) Quintanilla, Polly (Sonny) Gonzalez, and Helen Perez. He will never be forgotten by his grandchildren, Tristan Coleman, Bryce Coleman, Ava Rodriguez, and Vida Rodriguez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care provided for Robert by the Methodist Heart and Lung Institute Heart Failure and Transplant Center, and the empathetic attention given to Robert by the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Methodist Hospital. His loved ones are forever grateful for the additional time they had with Robert as a result of the knowledge, research, and implemented practices both facilities provided.
