Robert Samuel Cobb III was born on December 18, 1928. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Cobb Sr, mother, Emma Tkadlec Cobb, and Sister Mary Ackermann. He is survived by siblings, Lottie Linville, Butler, Ohio; Etta Jane Hillman, Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by children, Deborah Jean Hindman from San Antonio and Thea Colete Wollenberg from Katy, Texas. Granddaughter, Katie Perkins, College Station, Texas grandsons Christopher Perkins, Sugarland, Texas and Ryan Wollennberg, Katy, Texas.
Robert attended Hot Wells ISD and graduated with honors in June of 1946. He was president of the senior class and played football, basketball and ran track. Robert entered The Marine Corps upon graduating in 1946 and served three years and even during this term, he continued to play football, basketball, and run track. Robert served all three years in San Diego, California; he attained the rank of Sgt. and his discharge was in June of 1949.
Robert attended Trinity University, Texas A&M University, and the University of Texas, graduating with honors from UT in June 1954. While at UT, he met and married his lifelong loving spouse, Martha Jackson, Cobb. He received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering. Robert was hired by the General Electric Company upon graduating from UT with assignments in manufacturing, engineering, and marketing over the next 33 years in Ft. Wayne Indiana: Pittsfield, Massachusetts: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Houston Texas. He retired on December 1, 1988 and was hired on a contract basis over the next five years by General Electric Company as Project Manager for projects in Yemen, Kuwait, Houston, Austin and San Antonio, Texas.
He frequently volunteered at The Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne, Texas helping with trail guiding, library and field research. Volunteer activities at The Botanical Gardens in San Antonio included library, birding tours and plate engraving. He attended Oak Hills Church. Robert’s many hobbies included: golf, birding and travel for 5 years in a 36 foot Monaco RV with spouse, fishing scuba diving and dove hunting.
Visitation will take place in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel Saturday May 2, 2015 at 9:00am with funeral services beginning at 10:00am followed by committal services at Sunset Memorial Park.
