Richard was born to Fidencio and Gudelia (Ramos) Jasso as Ricardo Jasso, on October 21, 1939 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended high school at San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School (now known as Fox Tech High School). After high school, Richard voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army on July 21, 1958. After completing assignments with the 101st Airborne Division and 12th Engineering Battalion he was Honorably discharged on July 20, 1961. Five months after his discharge from Active Duty he married Olga Aurora Taboada on December 31, 1961. He would spend the next 56 years working in construction and carpentry and raising a family. Richard lived for family. Though he was usually quiet and reserved, he always knew what was going on around him. He was a man who would drop everything to help someone who needed an extra pair of hands. He loved his craft and was happy to teach anyone how to swing a hammer or use a power tool. He was also glad to teach carpenter apprentices. Though he didn’t just teach the tools of the trade, he also modeled the importance of hard work and dedication. After working a full day, he still found time to help others with their home projects. Richard was a model of generosity and old-fashioned values.
With six siblings, Richard had many nieces and nephews. Richard is survived by his lovely wife (Olga) of almost 57 years; four children – Ricardo Jr. (Rick), Edmund, Margaret, and Steven. He had twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Richard’s life will be celebrated at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6322 Bandera Road, San Antonio, Texas on January 3rd, 2019. Guests will be received from 4:00 – 5:00 pm followed by Honors at 5:00 pm. A Rosary and Vigil will take place from 5:15 – 6:00 pm and light refreshments from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
