Richard Vidal Carrillo, born March 11, 1936, in Floresville, TX, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of June 18 after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Desiderio Carrillo and Adelina Vidal, and siblings Bernice Olivares, Eva Guajardo, Margaret Quintana, Carmen Meyer, Lucy Garza, Daniel, Adan, and Estevan Carrillo.
Shortly before his death, Richard celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary to his beloved wife, Marcella “Marcy” Ybarra Carrillo, on June 15. Richard leaves behind Marcy, their two children, Rick Carrillo (Ivonne) and Melinda Sweeney (Mark), as well as four grandchildren: Michael Sweeney (Reid), Leviere Carrillo, Daniel, and Joseph Sweeney. He was a proud father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Jesse (Celia) and Louis (Nicki) Ybarra, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Richard spent two years in the US Army and then worked for 30 years in vending services, retiring as a supervisor. Richard actually began working at age 14 selling watermelons from his family farm in Floresville and was very passionate about starting his own business as he got older. In 1987, he founded his own company, Action Vending, which he operated until he retired at the age of 82.
Richard coached Little League Baseball in his earlier years, as well as golf, both as an observer and player. He played card games, dominoes and bowled in Friday-night leagues. Through the years, he enjoyed attending many family events, weddings and Quinceañeras.
A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 7 at Sunset Funeral Home, followed by a Rosary and funeral services at 11. Richard will be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. He will be in our hearts forever and will truly be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a contribution be made to the charity of your choice in Richard’s name.
