Chief Petty Officer Ricardo Duran Longoria, Ret. U. S. Navy, born on April 9, 1952 went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2012 at the age of 59 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Susanna Longoria. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Elk Longoria; daughters, Nicole Longoria (Al), Vanessa Longoria (Brian), and Jennifer Longoria (Ivan); grandchildren, Kalil Allen, Liora Allen, Kalani Jackson, Ricky Mendoza Longoria, and Alvaro Gutierrez; brothers, Mario Longoria ( Noemi) and Jaime Longoria (Denise); sisters, Gloria Longoria, Corina Contreras (Ruben), Josefina Longoria, and Lisa Hermosillo (George). Ricardo Longoria was a determined, dedicated, and caring husband, father, brother, and family man. He dearly loved his family and served his country exceptionally well. His Naval career spanned almost 28 years that included service in Vietnam and the first Persian Gulf War. He served on various warships and land bases in the Western Pacific, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. In addition to sea duty Ricardo earned his flight wings as a crew member aboard EC-130 aircraft on missions to Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and the Soviet border. After retirement from the U.S. Navy, he returned to federal employment with the U.S. Department of Defense- Military Sealift Command for sea duty on various Supply Transport Ships, and with the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion. His character is founded on strong family values, a close network of friends and is remembered for his uncanny ability to diffuse hostile, negative situations into positive ones. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Rosary that same evening. A procession will depart from the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 for a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Berchmans’ Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
