Raul S. Herrera

Raul S Herrera left to be with The Lord, on July 17, 2016, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents Federico and Beatriz, and Brother David. He is survived by his wife, children, and siblings Federico and Beatriz.

Born February 5, 1930 in San Antonio; Raul attended Edgewood H.S. and was part of the Bi-District Championship football team of 1946, and graduated in 1948 as the class Salutatorian.

Raul married Rita Flores; and were married for over 62 years. They have six children –Sylvia Herrera, Theresa (Horlando) Torres, Mary (Eddie) Garcia, Raul (Rachel) Herrera, John (Laurie) Herrera, and Charles (Liza) Herrera, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

After serving in the Army, Raul went on to retire from Kelly A.F.B. after forty years of service. Raul was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Always involved in his children’s activities; he coached and served on the board at Pan-American Little League and Prospect Hill Youth Organization (President 1971) and was a member of the John F Kennedy Band Booster (President 1975-76). His athletic accomplishments and community service led to his 1991 induction into the Edgewood Athletic Hall-of-Fame. A visitation will be held at Roy Akers Funeral Home on Thursday July 21, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm and a rosary at 7:00pm. On Friday July 22, 2016 a funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel at 10:00am, with a procession to depart Roy Akers Funeral Home at 9:30am.
