Born on April 28, 1932, in Ocumare del Tuy, Venezuela passed away on February 14, 2025.
Petty devoted her life to faith, family, and service. She became a physical therapist in 1962 dedicating herself fully to her patients. As the President of the Federation of Physical Therapy in Venezuela, she developed the country’s first Physical Therapy Program and pioneered the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Her remarkable achievements helped countless people heal and inspired generations of students to fulfill their dreams of becoming physical therapists. She offered all her work with deep faith, seeking holiness in everything from the smallest daily tasks to life’s most profound moments.
Above all, Petty embodied an unmatched devotion to God and family. As a faithful disciple of the apostolate, she lived a life defined by charity and grace, illuminating every path she walked with unwavering purpose and a radiant spirit. Her unshakeable optimism was a defining feature of her character, one we all hope to carry forward.
Petty loved all things. Namely, the Holy Family, sweets, donkeys, learning, teaching, healing, flowers, people, a cold beer, spring, the beach, poetry, music, and conversations. She was deeply present in this world—and she loved it here.
She is survived by her children, Raúl and his wife Marinella, Alida, and Luis Manuel and his wife Carolina. Her grandchildren: Rebeca, Claudia, Virginia, David Jr., Sisi, Tommy, Gaby, Jimmy, Luis Manuel Jr., Juan Pablo, and Corina. She also leaves behind her sisters, Nena Rodríguez and her spouse Fernando Rodriquez, and Maria Calzadilla. As well as her sisters in law Maria J Colmenares and Mary Peraza.
In heaven, she will be reunited with her beloved husband, Raúl Colmenares and son in law, David Berry, and her siblings Manuel, Isa, Lila, Winston and Musiua.
She will be joyfully embraced by those who have gone before her, welcoming her home to rest in eternal peace and happiness.
Petty will be deeply, truly, and profoundly missed. We will see her in all things beautiful and happy.
As she would always say: "Con Dios todo y sin Dios nada." (With God, everything; without God, nothing.)
