Pete was born in New Jersery on December 7, 1937 to parents George Smith and Annette Smith (Groves). He grew up in St. Augustine, Florida, and enlisted in the Air Force after high school. While stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Pete met the love of his life, Fay Carol Watts. Pete and Fay were married on Valentine’s Day in 1959 and spent the next 63 years together, raising four daughters and later welcoming eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Often referred to as “Smitty,” Pete proudly served in the Air Force for over 21 years, retiring with honors in 1975. He spent his second career in the HVAC industry and later retired from PHI, Inc. He is fondly remembered by fellow servicemen, coworkers, and friends for his genuine smile, his clever sense of humor, and his enthusiasm to always lend a helping hand.
Pete was a loving husband and father, and his greatest joys included spending time with his daughters and their families; camping in the mountains in Colorado, and walking hand-in-hand with Fay on the beach in Rockport. In the true spirit of the 12th Man, Pete could be found in College Station most weekends every fall, cheering his Aggies on to victory at Kyle Field.
Pete is survived by his wife, Fay Carol Smith; his daughters, Sherri Kreutler (Lewis), Nancy Dolezal, Kathy Tyler (Phil), and Melissa May (Vince); grandchildren Michael, David, and Kevin Kreutler, Kyle and Ryan Dolezal, Hailey Ingram, Matt and Kendall Tyler, Nichole Myers, and Tanner and Jake May; and his sister Sandra Fancher and brother Richard Smith.
A memorial service will be held at the Somerset United Methodist Church, 8175 7th St., Somerset, TX 78069, on Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
