Pam was born in Chicago, Illinois to Anthony William Monaco, Jr. and Mary Flanagan Monaco on May 8, 1947. The daughter of an Air Force colonel and Army Air Corps nurse, Pam spent her formative years traveling the U.S. and the world as part of a large military family. She met her husband Hugh J. O’Connor Jr. in Misawa, Japan and they settled in Highland Mills, New York to raise their children. Pam worked at Castle Point VA Hospital as a nursing assistant and clerk, and retired to San Antonio, Texas after thirty years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, refinishing antique furniture, reading, solving puzzles, driving solo cross-country, repairing broken gadgets and relaxing with her dog (Jameson) and cats (Sylvester and Daniel Tiger).
Pam is preceded in death by her parents Tony and Mary, her husband Hugh, their son Hugh Anthony O’Connor, and her sister Katherine Ann “Tina” Monaco.
Pam is survived by her children, Bridget O’Connor of New York, NY and Matthew O’Connor (Victoria) of Ridgefield, CT; daughter-in-law Anita Williams; and four grandchildren, Victoria and Samantha Parker, and Benjamin and Caitlyn O’Connor. She leaves behind six brothers and sisters (Mary Margaret, Anthony, James, Lawrence, Christa, David) and thirteen nieces and nephews.
Pam had the patience, humanity and selflessness of a saint. She was fiercely independent and incredibly resilient. However small in stature, she possessed extraordinary strength. Though Pam lived through more than her share of adversity, she rarely complained; she quietly persevered. Pam was a beloved mother and sister, and a truly kind and generous soul. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org) and San Antonio Pets Alive! (sanantoniopetsalive.org).
