She was born on Janurary 13, 1939 to Beatriz and Tiburcio Basaldua.
Ofelia was a devoted wife to her late husband Carlos R Hoyos Jr, whom she married on Janurary 21, 1955. They had two sons Carlos III and Randy, and their family beautifully grew from there. Ofelia was an adoring Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. One of thirteen children, she had a tremendous love for her entire family, and family was everything to her. Ofelia could light up any room with her laughter and smile. She will forever be known for her big heart and warm affection she gave to everyone around her.
Ofelia started out her career as a cashier at the Piggly Wiggly, which eventually changed over to a Handy Andy. This is where she began her money handling career, that eventually led to her working at the Broadway Bank, where she retired after a total of 30 years. It should be noted how Ofelia touched and engaged with the community through her work. Everyone was delighted to be around her, and she truly enjoyed working. Her class and iconic style was second to none.
Some hobbies of Ofelia's included baking cookies for her family and neighbors, as well as listening to country music. Her favorite artist was Alan Jackson. She also enjoyed playing bunko, checkers and Uno.
A visitation with rosary for Ofelia will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, rosary starting at 7pm, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A funeral mass will occur Friday, January 19, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. A graveside service will occur Friday, January 19, 2024 at 12:15 PM at Archdiocese of San Antonio -Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
Ofelia is survived by her three granddaughters Krystal De La Cruz, Katherine Ozuna and Sydney Hoyos and by her six great-grandchildren Jacquelynn Hoyos-De La Cruz, Josselynn De La Cruz and Carla De La Cruz, Nathaniel Peyton Hoyos, Noah Raul Hoyos, Nina Grace Hoyos,. She is also survived by her siblings Bertha Flores, Isabel Canchola, Guadalupe Martinez, Reynaldo Basaldua and Tiburcio Basaldula Jr. She is preceeded in death by her husband Carlos R Hoyos Jr, her two sons, Carlos B Hoyos III and Randy B Hoyos and her siblings Mary Basaldua, Casimira Escalante, Gloria Delgado, Tomasa Sales, Raymond Basaldua, Enrique Basaldua, Richard Basaldua.
Ofelia will be dearly missed by her sisters, brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and and to all those who had the honor of knowing this remarkable woman. May her legacy live on and may she continue to light up the lives of all those who knew her with the memories she's left behind. God Bless her and may she rest in peace.
