Our darling, Monica Bernadette Vasquez was called away to be reunited with God, her daughter Lauren who we lost on December 15, 2017 and sister Charlotte who passed on April 1st, 2021. Monica was born on July 22, 1970 in San Antonio, Texas and passed away on December 8th 2022 at the age of 52. She was the 3rd daughter born to Marcelino A. Vasquez Jr. & Antonia Martinez Vasquez. She had four sisters Mercy, Toni, Charlotte & Tricia. Monica enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She enjoyed her family vacations which involved camping, sitting by the campfire and lots of swimming at Canyon Lake, Corpus Christi, Camp River View and the HEB Lodges in the hill country. As a child, she would pretend to be an adult and boss her two older sisters around. She had a gift of making us laugh. Growing up Monica didn’t have any female cousins her age and so she was a bit of a tom boy. She enjoyed playing with her male cousins Leo, Lil Jesse & Marcos. Monica attended Highlands High school.
Monica was the life of the party and firmly believed in doing things her way, a bit of a rebel. She was loud and had a lively personality. Monica always had a beautiful smile on her face and a hug for family and friends. Monica didn’t shy away from others and to her everyone was a friend. You always knew where you stood with her. She wasn’t afraid of what others may say and would speak her mind freely. She had a unique perspective on life and tried to spread her joy to all she knew. Monica was always very giving and had a big heart. She didn’t have a lot of worldly possessions but she managed to give so much more by giving of herself by sharing her precious time and helping others.
Monica was blessed with three sons Christopher, Johnathan, Marcelino & one daughter Lauren. She was a loving mother who shared her passion of the outdoors with them by taking them swimming, fishing and camping. She never judged anyone either and was always willing to listen and share advice. And she instilled this practice with her kids, to treat others kindly no matter their circumstances. Monica became a very good cook and you were fortunate if you were able to enjoy her cooking.
Monica held many jobs trying to find the right fit and being a mother was number one. She also worked as a sign designer, at a hotel, and bakery, completed her CNA and always helped to care for others especially the elderly. Later in life, she spent time speaking to the homeless and often times giving away her own possessions because she felt they needed them more. Monica was also gifted with a talent for crafts like her mother. She made many beautiful wreaths, balloon and flower decorations for family events. Monica was able to travel to Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.
Monica was also blessed with several grandchildren Destiny, Hilda, John Jr., Aden, Alex, Avery, Thalia, Ethan, Gabby, Marcelino Jr., Nico, Zachary & Josiah. She loved caring, playing, cooking and spending time with all of her grandchildren. Monica made her peace with God after losing Lauren five years ago. She attended church with John & Elijah.
Monica is survived by her parents Marcelino & Antonia Vasquez, sons Christopher & Rita, Johnathan & Elijah, Marcelino & Melissa and grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters Mercy & Ron Meyers, Toni & Jay Aycock & Tricia Potts.
Monica is preceded in death by her daughter Lauren Vasquez and sister Charlotte Vasquez Chavarria, grandparents Marcelino & Sara Alderete Vasquez Sr. & Francisco & Carlota Wolfe Martinez.
Our beloved Monica will be remembered for her radiant smile that would lighten up the room, positive attitude, kindness, generosity, and an amazing deep love for her family and friends and God.
A Service & Celebration of life will be held at Sunset Funeral home on her daughter Lauren’s birthday January 10th, 2023 at 12:00pm.
