Miriam was born in San Antonio on December 20,1952 to John Amin Mery and Emilia Tueme Mery. She graduated from Incarnate Word College where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Miriam began her career at the Methodist Hospital where she eventually found her calling in the Labor and Delivery Unit. During her career, she was blessed to assist in the birth of countless children, many of which belonged to family and friends. Miriam’s dedication and work ethic resulted in her achieving the status of Charge Nurse for her unit. Throughout her 40-year career, she formed many lifetime friendships with fellow nurses, medical colleagues and patients.
Miriam met the love of her life, Alton Thomas Wells, while working at Sidney Shoes along with her father John. They married on October 25, 1974. Together they raised three children, Ben, Alana, and Justin and were blessed with five beautiful grandchildren.
Miriam was a lifelong member of St. George Maronite Catholic Church. She led a life of very strong faith and served the Lord in many capacities. She was very active in Church activities such as Parish Council, Magic Is the Night, Ladies Altar Society, Church Choir, Mahrajan, and the Folklife Festival; serving as an active member, officer and many times the Chairperson. Miriam also loved participating in the Ameleb and Bey Aleph organizations and attending Monday Bible Study. Prior to her passing, she was serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Ameleb Club and the NAM Board Delegate for St. George. She received and earned many awards and acknowledgements including the Silver Masabke Award, National Apostolate of Maronites Outstanding Delegate of the Year, the Ralph & Josephine Karam Award and Member of the Order of St. Sharbel honor.
Throughout her life Miriam enjoyed painting, drawing and crocheting. She loved and always looked forward to her monthly Tripoley night with her Tripoley sisters (cousins). Miriam enjoyed traveling and experiencing many adventures but mostly she loved the family beach and camping trips. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, Miriam is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alton; sons Benjamin (Alexandra) and Justin (Ileana); daughter Alana (Raymond); brothers Bruce (Lori) and Guy (Janet); sister Roxanne (Kevin) and was beloved “Mimi” to five grandchildren; Rylan, Kyler, Ella, Lilia & Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her father John, mother Emilia (Nena) and brother Russell.The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 in the Large Hall at St. George Maronite Catholic Church, 6070 Babcock Road, San Antonio, Texas 78240. The service will also be live-streamed on St. George’s Facebook page and on YouTube channel.

11:00am – Funeral Liturgy
Miriam may be remembered through a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
