Miguel S. Castillo entered into eternal rest on March 20, 2023, at the age of 71. Miguel was born on September 29, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas, to Genara and Jose C. Castillo. He was the eldest of four children. Though Miguel was his birth name, his family called him Michael, and many friends and acquaintances knew him as Mike.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose C. Castillo Sr.; brother, Jose C. Castillo Jr., beloved wife of 23 years, Elena C. Castillo; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Miguel is survived by his mother, Genara S. Castillo; son, Gregory Castillo; sister, Josie Reynolds and her husband Pete; sister, Anna Alvarado and her husband Carlos; and his aunt, Mrs. Alvina S. Arizpe. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Mr. and Mrs. Jose C. Castillo, Sr. strongly supported their son Mike's academic pursuits, always encouraging him to excel in his studies. Under their guidance, Mike was a member of the National Honor Society throughout his time in both junior high and high school. His parents' sacrifices and support allowed Mike to reap the rewards of his hard work and dedication.
Mike graduated from Fox Tech High School on May 25, 1970, and was awarded a scholarship to attend Trinity University. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Engineering on May 12, 1974. He later pursued graduate studies in Environmental Management at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Mike also began his professional career right after high school, starting as an Architectural Draftsman with Torres & Makar Architects in 1970. From 1973-1980, he worked at Morton Southwest, Inc., first as an Estimator, and later as an Assistant Superintendent . In 1980, Mike moved on to Mission Contractors, Inc., where he continued his work as an Estimator and Superintendent for 2 years. In 1981-1982 he advanced from Superintendent to Project Manager while at C&S Contractors, Inc. And from 1982-1986, while working at JDM Associates, he was both an Associate and Chief Draftsman. Finally, in 1986 Mike went to work for SpawGlass Contractors, Inc., where he was a Project Manager, Quality Control Manager, and Superintendent.
Mike worked in the construction industry for more than 28 years. His experience included work in construction management, contract administration, subcontract coordination, job-site organization, and construction operations.

Mike received several awards and certificates from the American Subcontractors Association and Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. And in 1995, Mike received the National Excellence in Construction “Award of Merit”, presented by Associated Builders and Contractors and the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence Headquarters / SpawGlass Contractors, Inc.
Mike had a passion for deer hunting. He went hunting as often as possible, and spent many enjoyable days at the deer lease with his friend, Hector Ramos. Mike had many deer hunting stories. He also enjoyed fishing with his little brother, Joe Jr. Those outings were mostly about brothers spending time together. Mike loved music, singing, and dancing. He was a great dancer, and when the mariachis showed up, he was not shy about singing along. Barbecuing while listening to tejano and country oldies was another of his favorite pastimes.
Mike was a also a very prayerful man. He enjoyed talking about the Bible and God. His family thought of him as a “pray warrior”.
Mike was a beloved son, brother, nephew, husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by many loved ones.
