Mike was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he attended College High School and graduated in 1965. He had fond memories of his high school years and loved keeping in touch with his classmates on social media and enjoyed class reunions.
Mike proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Lyman K Swenson (DD729) from 1966-1969. Thereafter, Mike was an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). When Mike would recount the years he spent as an Air Traffic Controller, it was always with a sparkle in his eye.
Mike attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and then obtained his license as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Mike went on to work as an Auditor for a CPA Firm and was the Chief Financial Officer at Kingfisher Federal Savings & Loan. Mike had a long and distinguished career with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in Dallas, TX, as a Senior Accountant and then transferred to the Tulsa, Oklahoma office where he attained his Examiner commission and worked as a Bank Examiner. Mike retired from FDIC in December 2014, with 35 years of Federal Service.
Mike was raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Bartlesville and was guided in his faith by his Grandpa and Grandma Calvert. After marrying Jo Ann, they actively attended Adventist Fellowship Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Mike enjoyed music, playing golf, fishing and family gatherings. Mike loved “Sophie and Sadie” our Miniature Schnauzers, as they brought him so much joy and companionship. Mike was a friendly and loving person exhibited by his beautiful and contagious smile. He enjoyed talking with just about anyone and always had time to listen and share wonderful stories. He especially enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to the Kiddie Park in Bartlesville which opened the year he was born. He was an avid OU Football fan and loved his Sooners!!! He was a big ole’ teddy bear. Most of all, Mike was a dedicated husband and loved his family immensely.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Norma Jean (Jarboe) Calvert. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jo Ann of 21 years, his children Jeff (Chantel) West and Krista Calvert. His grandchildren Derek, Brett, Cole and Lilly West, Lael Heisey, Nicholas and Kaitlin Williford. His sisters, Deborah (Don) Morrison and Susan Bain. Other surviving family members are his nephews Russell (Michelle) Morrison, Garrett (Hannah) Bain and niece Kelli (Randy) Jacobs. Great-niece Camryn Morrison, Great-nephews Rocky and Sonny Bain and Major Jacobs. Sister-in-law Pat (Abe) Garza and niece Brady (Jon) Sams and Great-niece Emma Kate. Mike also has many special cousins and their families that will miss him along with his long-time friends Kerry Blackburn, Jim Jones, and Cliff “Biff” Newhart. They called Mike on a regular basis and Mike loved talking with them, which was a blessing and a testament of their friendship.

A special thank you to Erin Quijada, RN with Remarkable Hospice for her compassionate care of Mike. Thank you to Dr. Carmen Cawley and her wonderful staff for extending excellent medical care and compassion to Mike.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:30 am at Adventist Fellowship Church, 15303 E 21st St, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
