Mary Angelina Sanchez passed away peacefully and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on January 20, 2024. She was a lady of great moral character, strong energy, and faith in God. She was born in San Antonio, TX to Catarino and Carmen Sandoval on June 24, 1932. She had three sisters, Ana Carrera, Rosa Rodriguez, Christine Carrera, and one brother, Robert Sandoval. Mary had a strong bond to her family and was always a phone call away providing love and support as well as receiving it. She is survived by her sister Rosa. And before her sister Christine’s passing, Christine moved in with Mary to support her as Mary’s health began to fail. Mary always enjoyed visits from family and friends. She had a career in the restaurant business and ultimately owned a restaurant in San Antonio with her husband Gilbert, a well-known chef. She was also proud of her work in nursing and was a perfect fit as she cared for people greatly. She appreciated the simple things in life like a good cup of coffee while sitting on the porch enjoying a sunny day. She had a great sense of humor and wit, always appreciating comedy and good jokes. She enjoyed watching mysteries, especially Columbo, Monk, and Murder She Wrote. Mary had a tremendous love for animals, always feeding the stray animals that came to her house while caring for her beloved elderly pet dog, Pancha. She enjoyed dining at local restaurants like Jim’s and Sea Island with an occasional visit to any family-owned Mexican restaurant. Her favorite foods were biscuits and gravy, eggs over-medium with cheese, fried fish and shrimp, enchiladas and tamales.
Mary was a loving wife to Gibert Sanchez for 55 years. She was also the loving mother of five sons, Gilbert (Nora), Willie, Raymond, Edward (Elizabeth) and Henry (Leticia). Mary is survived by her sons, Gilbert, and Edward. She endured the loss of her husband Gilbert, and sons, Willie, Raymond, Henry, and grandson, Raymond. Mary’s loving grandchildren include, Monica Sanchez, Melissa Sanchez, Eric Sanchez, Catherine Sanchez, Raymond Sanchez, Ryan Lathe, James Sanchez, Amber Forbess, Barbra Cummings, Henry Michael Sanchez II, Christian Sanchez, and Willie Sanchez. She was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren. Mary was well loved by her friends, family and extended family and will always be loved and missed.
A gathering of family & friends for Mary will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218, followed by a rosary and memorial service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
