Mary Ann Hitchcock, age 88, passed away February 8, 2012 in San Antonio, TX. She was born on March 10, 1923 in McKinney, TX to Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Nelson. After her graduation from Boyd High School in McKinney in 1941, she worked for North American Aviation in Dallas and later at Lone Star Gas Co. in McKinney. She married Carl Edward Hitchcock on March 20, 1948 in McKinney. After living 13 years in Corpus Christi and 2 years in Brownsville, the couple moved in 1963 to San Antonio, TX.
Mary Ann and Carl were active members of the Alamo Heights Christ Church, where Mary Ann served as a Deaconess and member and Vice President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a former member of the Inner Wheel associated with the San Antonio Rotary Club and a former member and Past President of the Green Meadow’s Women’s Club. Mary Ann was a member of the San Antonio Genealogical Society, the San Antonio de Bexar Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved reading, sewing, listening to music, researching family history, traveling, and taking photographs of her family and friends. She was a sweet, loving woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Sarah Rey.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Betty Nelson of Irving, TX; sister-in-law Imogene Hitchcock of Garland, TX; children, Jon E. Hitchcock and wife, Dietta of Roswell, NM, Jerry C. Hitchcock and wife, Cynthia of San Antonio, TX, and Polly Hitchcock Noël and husband, Jim, of San Antonio, TX; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; and 10 nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 am Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Chapel in San Antonio, TX with Dr. Roy N. Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday, February 13, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that if a donation would like to be made in Mary Ann’s memory, that it be directed to either the Alamo Heights Christian Church or the American Red Cross.
