Mary Anne Karam, 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday July 4, 2020, in Austin, TX. She was born on August 22, 1944 in Laredo, Texas to Solomon J. Karam Sr. and Azizi Mery Karam. She attended Providence High School and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1966.
Mary Anne had many talents and will be especially remembered for her love of good food and fine wine. She was an outstanding chef and shared that love of cooking with her students through the cooking classes she taught for years. She also loved gardening and horticulture and was very proud of achieving Master Gardener status. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, owning several small businesses including Gift Baskets by Mary Anne in the 1970’s, and later a local business providing unique herbed vinegars and oils. She was a lifetime member of St. George Maronite Church, a member of the Bey Aleph Sorority and of the Ameleb Club of San Antonio.
Mary Anne is survived by her daughter Valerie Wilhite and husband Daniel, and grandchildren Andrew, Hannah, and Jacob Wilhite. She is also survived by her brother Patrick M. Karam and wife AnnMarie, and by her sisters-in-law Patricia Karam and Ann Daly Karam, and by a large and loving extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Solomon, Jr., Robert and Ralphie Karam, her sister Jeanette Karam Van Delden, and her granddaughter, Rachel Ann Cumpian.
A private memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 12 noon. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook (St. George Maronite Church) and on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN21AVRubdbztz94eY52mEw) from St. George Maronite Church. There will be no graveside services at this time.
