Marlene is survived by her children, Michael G. Feuerlein Sr. and wife Gilda Feuerlein, David Bret Feuerlein, and wife Sebrina Feuerlein, and Kurt Robert (Bobby) Feuerlein who all reside in San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Mikey) and wife Ashley, Katherine (Katy), Brandy and husband Kyle, Randal, Nathaniel (Nathan), Aaliyah-Shaye, and Jacob as well as great grandchildren Tyler, Ryland, Hanna, Brantley, Levi and Kyle Mason. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Mica. She is preceded in death by her husband Kurt George Feuerlein and her parents Robert Kyle and Mary Pauline Purgason of San Antonio, Texas.
Marlene was born on 26 July 1944, and graduated from Edison high school (The Golden Bears) in 1962. She married Kurt in who was an AMF Bowling Center mechanic in 1965. They lived in San Antonio and the couple raised three children together. During this time she was a mother, homemaker, cook, gardener, baker, mentor and a great friend to all who knew her. She also supported her family by working numerous jobs to include retail positions at Woolworth and Woolco, Dillard’s, JC Penney’s and Sweringen Aviation where she fabricated cockpit sheet metal for aircraft gauges. This job was based on a dare from her late husband Kurt just to prove she could do it. Later in life she would find a passion for the banking industry where her personality and infectious smile would touch thousands of customers as a bank teller in Converse and Universal City.
Life was fulfilling but not a bed of roses and she lost her husband Kurt in 1987 to cancer which left her single for many years. She later developed cancer herself but managed to beat it and had been cancer free for years. Her boys remember her as a kind, gentle but also a strong tell you like it is mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals, always be respectful of women and always work hard no matter what the task may be. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren remember her as “Nana” which ironically was the one name she didn’t want to be called when she first became a grandmother. This name however stuck with her and she embraced it and they remember her as a kind and gentle grandmother who spoiled them whenever she could. Whether it was through hugs and kisses or gifts or just good food they always looked forward to seeing her especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her friends some of whom she had known over 56 years remember her as a dear friend they could call anytime they were in need of a friendly ear, or good conversation because she did love to talk. One last thing worth mentioning if you knew Marlene was her love of animals and over the years she had her share of hamsters, dogs, a bird named Harley and of course cats. Mom loved cats with a passion and we have many great memories with mom and her cats Charlie, Tasha, Natasha, Tasha Roo, Tazz, Lovebug, Shadow, Jeremiah, Pepe Grey, and Mica as well as the cat T-shirts and sweatshirts she always wore. If you didn’t know what to get her for a birthday or Christmas just get her something with a cat on it and she was happy.
Her love and talent in the kitchen will probably be her legacy with her family. She was a generous and dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved to cook big dinners and bake especially during the holidays. Everyone had a favorite dessert and she worked diligently to make sure everyone was satisfied. She loved the Lord and was always very proud that her sons loved God as well. The night before she went to be with Jesus, her youngest son Bobby actually had a dream that mom had arrived in heaven and she was in a huge kitchen where she was given an apron and now was cooking and baking for Jesus.
This is how we would like to remember her since she loved doing this for her family. We also believe that if she had one wish that it would be that all of her family which include 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and all of her friends to all come to know the Lord and not fear death but see it as a new beginning with God by your side.
While in her final days she had a period of clarity and many of her family and friends were able to talk to her, facetime her and look into her pretty blue eyes one last time. And later that day we asked her if she was in pain? She nodded no. We asked if she was at peace? She nodded yes. We asked if she was ready to go see dad? She nodded yes. She had had a good run on life but was tired and was ready to go. She will be dearly missed because of the joy she brought us and many of us believe she was too young to leave us but we will always have the great memories here together on earth and the knowledge that she is now in heaven waiting for us with our dad, grandparents and great grandparents to someday join her.
In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
