Maria De Socorro Longoria, affectionately known as Chumba, entered the loving arms of Our Lord on October 7, 2024 at the age of 82. Maria was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 11, 1942 to parents Ernestina Manuela Gutierrez, and Jesus Verastegui, she was the eldest of eight children.
Maria was a devout Catholic, she was an active member of her church, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, where she served as a Guadalupana and sang in the choir, sharing her voice with her congregation. Her faith was central to her life, and she found joy in her involvement with the church.
She also had a special fondness for bingo, Keno, Loteria. She had a close-knit group of friends who called themselves the "Golden Girls," with whom she shared countless memories, laughter, and friendship.
Maria retired from the Baptist Health System. She dedicated 15 years of service to the hospital, leaving a legacy of hard work and perseverance. She climbed her way from housekeeping to a surgical supply department.
Maria had a fiery love for salsa-no meal was complete without it. She was known for her own homemade salsa by her family. She always brought a little heat to the table. Maria also loved to watch the Mexican telenovelas. She enjoyed the twist and turns of the shows. Most of all, Maria loved her family. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she was always there to provide warmth and care to those closest to her. Her legacy of love, faith, and adventure will live on through her family.
Maria will be reunited in heaven with her mother, Ernestina Manuela Verastegui; father, Jesus Verastegui; sisters, Lupe Resendis, Sylvia Ramirez, Oralia Ramirez, and Ada Hinjosa; and brothers, Carlos Verastegui and Jesse Verastegui.
Maria will forever live in the hearts of her children; Alma Villarreal (Rick), Veronica Longoria, William Longoria (Laura), Adam Longoria (Rose), Leonard Longoria (Virginia), and Jorge Longoria. Grandchildren; Jason, Ricky, Jennifer, William, Stephen (Giovanna), Matthew (Michelle), Moses (Veronica), Adam Jr. (Carmen), Ariel (Efren), Genevieve (Josh), Leonard Jr. (Mayra), Tiffany (Kevin), Melanie, Jorge Jr. (Teresa), and Sabrina (Anthony); great-grandchildren; Lizette (Luke), Alexis, Gabriel, Dago, Nadia, Mathew Jr., Madilyn, Miriam, Jeremiah, Madison, Sam, Alex, Ryan, Michael, Ariana, Sophia, Olivia, Aaron, Christian, Adam III, Ace, Thiago, Enzo, Aurabella, Alina, Aralya, Layla, Naliyah, Merideth, Fabian, Liana, and William; great-great-grandchild; Luka. Brother; Rene Verastegui (Maricela); numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
A visitation for Chumba will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237. A rosary will occur Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78237. A mass of the resurrection will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 12:00 PM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1314 Fair Ave #1, San Antonio, Texas 78223. A committal service will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 at San Fernando Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Road, San Antonio, Texas 78226.
