Maria T. Cortez-Barron, Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, peacefully went home to be with our Lord on June 5, 2013. She was born in Monterrey, Mexico and will now be reunited with her parents Julian and Juanita Garza Trevino, her husband Rafael Cortez Sr., and her 7 siblings that preceded her in death. She married Rafael Cortez, Sr. in 1936in San Antonio and had three loving children, after becoming a widow in June 1966 she remarried Mr. Pedro Barron in 1969 and lived with him and his ever loving family in Topeka, KS until his death in March 1977.She is Survived by her three children: Juanita C. Giron (Alfred), Rafael Cortez, Jr. (Rosie), Augustine Cortez (Rosita); twelve grandchildren: Sylvia M. Kennedy (Clyde), Mary Ann Smith (Odis), Alfred John Giron, Rachel Giron, Peter J. Giron (Lisa), Rafael Cortez III (Melissa), Gregorio R. Cortez (Marisol), Carlos L. Cortez (Dina), Augustine Cortez, Jr. (Sandra), Mauricio Cortez (Linda), Evangelina C. Munoz (Richard) Veronica C. Lopez (Gregory), twenty-five great grandchildren; Colleen, Amanda, and Cole Austin, Amber Nicole, Zoee Michelle, Melissa, Amanda, Julie, Joshua, Corbin, Alexandra, Clarissa, Tristan, Sasha, Gianna, Lucas, Zachariah, Isaac, Elijah, Augustine III, Mercedes, Alexis, Marcus, Matthew, Gregory II, Gianna Evangelina, and a caring, supportive, and very large extended family from near and far. The angels in heaven have patiently waited. She will never be far from our hearts and our thoughts as we are reminded daily by her traits we now possess. She will forever be remembered for the love she had for her family, her famous cooking, impeccable yard and flowers and amazing crafts. Her final pearl of wisdom would be, “Never leave for tomorrow, the things you can do today”. Visitation will be on Monday, June 10, 2013 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Rosary being recited at 7:00pm. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30am on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 for a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II.
