Marco Antonio “Tony” Gomez entered eternal rest, on August 30, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a year-long battle with cancer. Tony was born on September 18, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas to Colonel Viviano and Jovita Gomez who preceded him in death. Tony’s father was career military, so he spent his early years in many places. He was a 1969, graduate of Peacock Military Academy where he was salutatorian of his class. In his senior year, Tony was the drum major. In 1973, he graduated from St. Mary’s University, in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at St. Mary’s, Tony was a proud Sigma Beta Chi fraternity member. His passion for politics led him to jobs at the Bexar County Clerk’s Office. Tony also worked for the Secretary of State Office in Austin, Texas. In his later years, Tony worked for Humana Healthcare and was an analyst at CVS Caremark.
His entire life his favorite pastimes were watching baseball and playing guitar. He also loved watching other sports and had his favorite teams. Tony was a fan of the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame. He enjoyed listening to The Beatles and playing their songs on his guitar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Velma. Four children, Amoreena M. Curiale (Anthony), Marco A. (Kaela), Annalisa N. Medina (Alejandro), and Daniel B. Two Grandchildren, Nathaniel Curiale and Penelope Gomez. Three sisters, Maria T. Gomez, Monica Gaynor, and Marisa Ellerson (Gary). Along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The Gomez family would like to thank Dr. Butler and the nursing staff who cared for him in the Northeast Baptist Oncology department.
