Lela dedicated her life to helping others and worked with special needs adults for several years at the Unicorn Center. She was also an active member of Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church.
A poet, artist, and writer, Lela enjoyed crafts and singing. She was an avid reader from the age of three. She loved children, animals, and especially books. She will be remembered for her creativity, generosity, integrity, and dry wit.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell De La Garza and her parents, Armon and Ruth Jackson. She is survived by a daughter, Janeen Stout, of San Antonio, two sisters, Lenore Jackson of Seattle and Irma Jackson Bayne of Lytle, nephew, Jason Bayne of Boerne, niece, Erin Lamar of Little River, and her cats, Shelby, Shilo, and Sara.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 29 at 11 am at Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church
2002 W Olmos Drive San Antonio, TX 78201. Private interment at Fort Sam Houston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Los Angeles Heights Presbyterian Church.
