She received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Kent State University. She was an elementary school teacher for 27 years, of which 17 years were with the Northeast ISD. She also taught in Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, and Germany. It was in Germany she met Captain Michael D. Zucker, USA. They were married in Bremerhaven, Germany on August 20, 1968.
Karen possessed a strong Christian faith, and she was a devoted member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She was a faithful volunteer in the clothes section of the Agape Ministry on Lenark Street for over ten years. She enjoyed playing Bunco every month for over 30 years with teacher friends. She also enjoyed going out to dinner every Friday night for fifteen years with three other couples, and then going to someone’s house to play dominoes. She was a loyal supporter of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved books and spent several hours each day reading them.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Claire Suckel; and her brother, William Durr. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Michael D. Zucker; their son, David M. Zucker of Memphis, TN; a nephew, Durr Suckel (Lee) of Columbus, OH; and a niece, Reagan Yeatts (Michael) of Richmond, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, September 8, 2017 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm. A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church.
