It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Julian Luis Valdez on October 3, 2024, at the age of 67. Julian was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on August 5, 1957, to Jose Jesse Valdez and Ernestine Rodriguez.
A proud graduate of Burbank High School, class of 1976, Julian built a life rooted in service and dedication. He worked at Kelly Air Force Base and later at Standard Aero, where he retired on October 22, 2021, after years of hard work and dedication. Julian also served in the Army Reserves in the 238 Maintenance Unit for an impressive 27 years, as a Staff Sergeant, his unit was deployed to the Gulf War in 1990 and he returned in 1991. Sergeant Valdez was honored to serve his country always displaying an unwavering commitment to his country.
In his personal life, Julian was a beloved member of the VFW Post 76. His love for sports was evident as he spent countless hours playing softball, golfing, fishing, hunting and coaching youth sports teams. He also cherished fishing trips and relaxing visits to Corpus Christi, where he could unwind and enjoy the beauty of the coast.
Julian’s legacy is one of generosity, kindness, and love for family and community. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Julian will be reunited in heaven with his mother; Ernestine Rodriguez, father; Jose Jesse Valdez, his step-father; Richard Rodriguez, grandparents; Julian and Isabelle Martinez, niece; Ernestine Leal nephew; Martin Leal Jr.; his aunt and numerous uncles.
His memory will forever live in the hearts of his beloved wife; Cecilia Valdez, son; Julian Valdez Jr., daughters; Lisa Lopez (Ray) and Sandra Valdez (Paul), his grandchildren; Gabby, Saleen (Jorge), Noah, Josiah, Niko, and his great grandchild; Ella, he leaves behind his loving siblings; Jose Jesse Jr., Rosemarie Penuelaz (Daniel), Evangalina Carillo, Carrie Valdez (Jay), Stephen Rodriguez (Betty), and numerous nieces and nephews.
To honor his memory in the way he wished, Julian’s family kindly requests that guests attend the service in their everyday clothes and represent their favorite sports team. This gesture was Julian’s last request, and the family would greatly appreciate everyone’s participation on the day of service.
The Valdez Family would like to give special thanks to Nurse Rene, VA Hospice and the CLC Team for caring for Julian and his Family. Thank you to the Mays Cancer Clinic as well. In lieu of flowers, donations will be greatly appreciated to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Society.
