She was born on March 8, 1948, in San Antonio, TX to Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Y. Ramos & Margarita
V. Ramos. Janie is preceded in death by both her parents, her brother Domingo Ramos, and her former husband, Reymundo Padilla. She is survived by her three children, Dion R. Padilla and his wife, Bertha Padilla, Steven Padilla and his wife, Yvette Padilla, and Priscilla A. Padilla; all residents of San Antonio, TX. Her surviving siblings are Lydia Perez, Teresa Hernandez, and Maria Lourdes Flores and Jaime Flores, Sr. (spouse). She has nine grandchildren, Lauren, Raeven (spouse David Rodriguez; San Diego, CA), Vitor, Mauricio, and Wren, Ayana (spouse EJ Plata; Ft. Worth, TX), Jacob, David, and Caleb, and multiple nieces and nephews.
She loved Tejano music, with one of her favorite artists being Ramon Ayala. She loved to sing and dance at weddings and do karaoke on Friday nights with her grandchildren. Her favorite movie was “Thelma & Louise” in which she thought she was more like Thelma. She loved QVC and The Home Shopping Network.
Janie attended Edgewood High School and it was there that she found her passion for sewing. She loved to sew and made all kinds of clothes and costumes for her children. One time for her son’s school play, back in 1979, she made him a crocodile costume that everyone raved about. Her kids never had to worry about fancy clothes like Coca-Cola shirts, Guess pants or Levi’s 501 Blues, or Members Only jackets. Janie could be found in her sewing room on her Singer sewing machine making entire dresses for her youngest daughter. Oh, how she loved to sew!
Janie could be found most often hanging out with her sisters during family gatherings talking about what happened on One Life to Live, General Hospital, and her favorite, All My Children. Her favorite character was Erica Kane. She loved her soap operas and found them as a nice way to relax.
Janie loved to cook. She was always trying out new recipes that she heard from a neighbor or one of her sisters. The rule was – she did all the cooking, and the kids did all the cleaning! She was a wonderful cook. She loved to bake cakes and Thanksgiving was her favorite time to make a bountiful feast for all her family and friends to enjoy. Holidays were certainly special times for her to share in her love for cooking. Although not a holiday meal, one of her favorite recipes was fried chicken served with mashed potatoes, corn, and blueberry muffins. This special recipe has been graciously passed on to her two beautiful daughters-in-law, which their spouses are greatly appreciative of.
Most notably, Janie will be remembered for being a wonderful and loving mother. She loved being a mom not only to her children but as a grandmother to all her grandchildren. She loved to shower her grandchildren with all kinds of gifts. One of her favorite places was buying things from QVC. And she loved blankets! She always thought you could never have enough blankets, especially after the great snowstorm in San Antonio back in February 2021.
God now has another angel in heaven. She will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. A Rosary service will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home located at 910 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232, on Thursday August 11, 2022.
