At a very young age he came to the United States and lived on the west side of San Antonio. At the age of 17 he met a woman Josefina Torres who would unknowingly become the love of his life and wife. They married on November 30th,1987 and fulfilled their vows which so many take so lightly “Til Death Do Us Part.” Though many trials and tribulations challenged their marriage one thing was certain, Jose never abandoned his wife or children; He remained a husband, father, grandfather, provider, supporter, and a pillar until his last breath.
Jose had many names among his friends and family;
To his grandchildren he was Grandpa, Pimp, and Abuelo.
To his children he was dad, daddy, and Pa.
To many he was superman.
However, he was Honey, my love, and mi amor to only one person, his wife.
Jose was a man who made errors in his life just like any other person, however he was a man who would admit his mistakes and make it right. He was not a man to hold grudges and had the most radiating smile which every person who met him would always praise.
Jose loved to collect $2 bills and coins, at least once a month he would go to the bank and ask for $100 or more in $2 bills. He loved to travel and was a free spirit; in the early days he along with his wife and children always had a luggage in the trunk of the car ready for the weekend to leave “Para donde los lleva el viento” as he would say. (Wherever the wind will take us). Mexico, Corpus, South Padre, Dallas, Houston, Laredo, anywhere where the car could reach is where he would drive his family to.
As many know even in the last of his days, he kept a smile on his face and his faith was strong. Never once would you hear him complain or ask why. On the contrary those who visited him in his last days and his weakest moments would receive encouragement to live life to the fullest. One of the most powerful moments was seeing a man who was soon to leave this earth praying for a group of men that cried and surrounded him saying their farewells. Praying for health, blessings, strength, and all of Gods best for each and every one of them.
His last days were some of the hardest for those who surrounded him, but for him, he was ready. “See you on the other side” he told every single one of us. He left this world not saying he lost the battle rather he said, “I’m retiring”
Until we meet again Pa, See you on the other side
