Johnny Gonzalez passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 78. Born October 11, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas, he is preceded in death by his parents, Marcelo and Maria De La Luz Garcia; and his brothers, Henry and Edgar Dillard. Johnny had served in the military from 1957 to 1961 in the United States Navy and from 1963 to 1983 in the United States Air Force, eventually retiring from his role as a firefighter with Kelly Air Force Base.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Margarita C. Gonzalez; his two sons, John Christopher and Tony Gonzalez; his step-children, Roger Herrera (Irma), Vanessa Rodriguez (Nicolas) an Patricia Velasquez; his grandchildren, Julian Rodriguez, Tomas Rodriguez, Raul Velasquez and Logan Herrera; his siblings, Teresa Rodriguez, Charlotte Lara, Alan Dillard, Edith Lopez and Marcelo Gonzalez; and his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors who all loved him.
Due to restrictions on public gatherings, the Visitation at Trevino Funeral Home - 226 Cupples Road 78237 – and the Committal Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery – 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road 78209 – will be limited to 50 people. Face Coverings will be required at all services, at all times.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 6th from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. On Wednesday, April 7th, the Funeral Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church – 4222 SW Loop 410 78227– will begin at 12:30 PM. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:15 PM.
