John was born to Juan Garcia and Lucia Salazar Garcia in San Antonio, Texas on April 15, 1926. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School class of 1944 and proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Later, he attended Trinity University, Texas State University, and obtained a B.S. degree from the University of the State of New York. He did his graduate work at Webster College. John worked for the Defense Mapping Agency for 32 years, 15 of those in Central and South America. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and one of the last true gentlemen.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Victoria Salomon Garcia, his daughter Barbara Lynn Garcia (Barbara Chaney Insko), and his great-granddaughter Grace Alexandra Quigley (Grace Cook). He is survived by his granddaughter Krystle Kaye Cook (Krystle Chaney), her husband Clayborne Edward Cook, their children Austin Edward Cook, Nathan Alexander Cook (Alex), and numerous other extended family members who all loved John dearly.
