Janie Cortez Sanchez returned to her heavenly home on May 3rd, 2020 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 58 years old. Her love for her family and her faith in God supported her through this difficult season.
Janie was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico to Guadalupe and Victoria Cortez on June 24, 1961. She was the first in her family to attend college where she studied to be a respiratory therapist.
She married Juan Sanchez on June 13, 1981 and together had one daughter. Janie is survived by her husband, Juan; her stepson, Julian Sanchez and his wife, Tiffany; her daughter Sandra Sharp and her husband, James; her two grandchildren, Victoria and David Sharp, who brought her so much joy; brothers Hector, Javier, Roberto, Jesse, and Lupe; and numerous extended family and friends.
Janie loved spending time with children as she was a children’s pastor at Sendero Assembly of God church, Maranatha church, and Faith church. She taught herself to play guitar and piano and was very proud to pass on her piano to her granddaughter, Victoria. She would’ve been equally proud of her grandson, David, for learning the guitar.
The family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff who cared for her at Season’s Memory Care. She was cared for so gently and loved so deeply during her time there and the entire staff is greatly appreciated.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 7th at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on 6321 Bandera Rd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A private graveside service will follow.
