Janice Lee Turner, beloved mother, grandmother ("Mimi") and friend, was called home on November 9, 2019 at the age of 81. Jan was affectionally known to her friends and family as a very loving, caring and giving mother, grandmother and friend and was loved by all. She was born March 5, 1938 in Muskogee, Oklahoma and raised in Porum, Oklahoma. In 1964, while working at a flight school in Oklahoma, she met & married her husband Erwin (Ernie) E. Turner Jr. shortly before deployment. After living several wonderful years in Germany, they later moved to San Antonio, Texas where they resided and spent the rest of their lives raising their two daughters. She had the heart the size of Texas and never met a stranger. She loved her trips to the Port Aransas beach and to Rockport. She enjoyed fishing trips and hanging on the beach with family and close friends. She also loved bowling, music, going to the movies, time spent with family, and outings with friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her father John Wiley and her mother Willie Gwin, her dearest Aunt Oleta Bishop, and her husband of 40 years, Erwin E. Turner, Jr. She leaves behind her daughters Kimberly D. Turner and Sandra L. Strickland (Louis Strickland), and grandson Ethan W. Strickland. Jan will be dearly missed by a host of close friends developed over a lifetime.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 14th from 5:00-8:00 pm, Service at 6:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel at 1701 Austin Hwy. with burial to follow at a private Celebration of Life with close friends and family at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Make A Wish Foundation.
